Hello there! I'm Shelby Caret and I think that you should know that it has been my life long dream
to have the ability to create graphic designs and build something that is worth looking at and make you
feel something when you see it. While I'm still only in my second year here at the University of Maine--there's a lot more to my artistic knowledge and
background than what meets the eye.
I have completed a portfolio filled with 12 concentrative pieces-which revolves around one idea and 12 breath
pieces that give me some wiggle room to show exactly what I've done. Later on into the development of
this web page you will actually have the ability to view my work. On top of my AP art portfolio, I was the
2010 Maine State finalist, chosen out 30,000 entries, in the Doodle for Google contest where the objective
was to effectively represent "if you could do anything in the whole world, what would it be?" in the Google logo format
My response was to travel the world and write about it. The image of my Google entry will also be placed in this website for you
to see later on.
Lastly, in 2007, while I was only a Sophomore in high school, my father was diagnosed with ALS--for those of you who
don't know it is a nerve degenerative disease that eventually makes the holder of the disease paralyzed and the ending result
is death within 3-5 years. Within his last years of life he made it very clear to me that his dream was for me to go to college
and pursue my career in the arts and design. His optimistic outlook is what drives me through the obstacles that college gives me
but in the end I'm positive it will all have been worth it.
In the last seven years of my life I have been put in enough situations to figure out that I feel most comfortable and useful in a creative environment.
Here, my intuitive decisions and leadership help to build something aesthetically pleasing. After my first and only graphic design course in high school, I told
everyone from my family to my teachers that it was what I wanted to do; I loved everything about the idea of doing that for a living-no cubicles, no rule books, just me
and my mind at work to create something for the world.
I have done design projects for customers who come to me from word of mouth referencing, and have successfully landed myself on the Doodle 4 Google website for a year with my
Maine state winning Google logo design that satisfied the question: If you could do anything, what would it be? My answer was-Travel the world and write about it.
My goals are to utilize the time, resources and instructor time to create an effective portfolio and skill base that I will be able to use to my advantage while selling my
abilities to companies and clients during and after college. So far, I feel that I'm doing a good job of installing myself in the New Media community and creating a social web
of contacts, references and collegues.
